2023 has been an amazing year and, as always, weddings continue to grow and change. We have seen many traditions go away or slowly been put to the side. We have also seen the newest of trends our couples are adding.
Let’s give you 3 traditions that have gone away…
Garter Removal and Toss
For as long as I remember, we have had the groom remove the garter from the bride. Then he would toss it to a group of single gentlemen ready (or not) to catch it! We did this, why? Well, the bride would toss her bouquet. And I guess someone felt the guys needed something like that.
Most of the time it’s just good fun. The groom would dance funny, or he would have extra items in his jacket pretending they were up the brides skirt! But, there has been times a bride would get red-faced, and other times the guys wouldn’t even try to catch the garter.
We hear from most of our couples now that they simply find the routine to be awkward and weird.
Line Dances
While I personally have nothing bad to say about this style of music, we sometimes have couples that now request us not to play any line dances at all.
Long ago, many DJ’s would stop the dancing to actually teach the newest dance. Over the years, the trend has changed to where people often learn the hottest dance via TikTok or other social media. They often become popular for a month or two and then disappear!
For those classic line dances like Cha Cha Slide and the Cupid Shuffle, many couples simply think that they are played out or too cheesy. Also, they may have been to a few weddings where the DJ didn’t know how to mix these songs in and out of a dance set right. Does anybody really want to do the Wobble for five minutes?
Grand Entrance for Full Bridal Party
We all love the screams and cheers when the newlyweds get announced into the main ballroom. BUT, many of our couples have said NO to the full bridal party and keep it simple with just the two of them.
Some of our couples feel it’s just not needed. Or, they have too many people in the bridal party and are afraid it would take too long. OR, they have potentially uncomfortable scenarios, such as members of the bridal party who are actually married themselves that feel weird being paired with someone else.
Whatever the reason, this has been another tradition that is slowly going away.
While trends come and go, we have the luck to be at the front of the pack learning and helping mold these ever-changing styles. Let us know what trends you love, or do not want, at your upcoming celebration. Ultimately, it’s all about what makes you happy!
See you on the dance floor!
