Y2K. The big change! We are going to party after 1999!

When the clock hit midnight on that night to start a new millennium, we as DJ’s were very hopeful for some amazing music. You see, 1999 gave us Britney Spears, TLC, Santana, Eminem, and many more great classic artists and albums. But there was a harder sound that the main stream couldn’t help but notice. It wasn’t Rap, but a new style of ROCK!

Many called it alternative. Even some radio stations used that term. It was such a big sound that Z100 in New York City went from Pop music to all Alternative. This type of sound and beat is a part of the music culture for many of our wedding couples.

I know that when I can spin this style of music, we have a fun crowd. Heck, many of their parents enjoy the sound and know the words!

I want to give you my TOP 5 (not in order) Alternative Pop songs!

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

My go to post 2000 rock song! Oh, how I love this song! They way people scream and dance to it is “ELECTRIC”!!

All the Small Things- Blink-182

Looking back at Blink-182, this band was a blast! “All the Small Things” and its video shows how much fun this group is! The part of the song everyone loves to scream, and not sing, is…

Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs,
Surprises, let me know she cares

Just classic!

Stacy’s Mom- Fountain of Wayne

OK, the video is funny as can be, and the song is addictive. It’s slow and fast and will make you dance!

Dirty Little Secrets- All-American Rejects

This…. just this! That guitar riff at the start of the song makes every 2000’s alt-rock fan smile. How do you not get hyped from this song?

Last, but not least…

The Middle – Jimmy Eats World

Not only does this song rock, but it has a great message. As does the video!

There is no reason you should have to follow the crowd. Be yourself, it’s OK. High school is not the real world.

And it doesn’t hurt that this song is such a great dance tune!!!

Those are my Top 5 Alt-Rock songs I go to at weddings to make people dance. Sorry if I didn’t post about your fave!  Let me know if you have any… I’d love to talk with you about music or your upcoming wedding!

See you on the dance floor!
